Library of Things Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. Read on for our policy on the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information when you use our website and when you communicate with us directly. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy. We use your personal information for providing and improving the website. By using the website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE

While using the website, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to, your email address, your name, phone number, postal address, other information ('Personal Information'). We and our providers only hold onto your data for as long as necessary to provide our service to you.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

We use trusted third parties to help provide our service to you. This includes tools to help manage support tickets and hosting the website itself. With all providers, we ensure:

  • They are compliant with UK data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and the relevant legislation.
  • They may only use your data for the exact purposes we specify in our contract with them.
  • If we stop using their services, any of your data held by them will either be securely deleted or rendered completely anonymous.

Payment Information

Credit and debit card payment services, along with other digital payment methods, are provided directly by Stripe.com. Your payment details are entered directly into a secure framework provided by Stripe; At no point does Library of Things see, store, or process your full card or payment details. Stripe processes your payment information in accordance with Stripe’s Privacy Policy. We do receive and store basic transaction information to help provide our service (such as the amount and the last 4 digits of your card) so we can identify payments if you have a query. If you wish to delete these details from Stripe, email us at hello@libraryofthings.co.uk. Please note that because active payment details are required to use our service, deleting this information will result in the closure of your Library of Things membership.

Identity Checks

We require most users to prove their identity before they can use our service to rent things. We use a service from Yoti to do this. Your identity documents are uploaded directly to Yoti using an encrypted connection. Yoti then shares back with us whether the ID is valid or not. Yoti also checks the date of birth on your document to verify you meet the age requirements for certain items.

Library of Things only stores the result of these checks (e.g., that a valid ID was provided and you are over 18). No other data, including your actual date of birth, is stored in our system. Furthermore, all data is automatically deleted from Yoti after 28 days.

We appreciate how sensitive ID data is, and you can read more about how Yoti stores and protects this data on their website and in their privacy policy.

SECURITY

The security of your personal information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
